About the Team

As part of Cisco’s engineering teams, interns will work on designing, developing, and testing software solutions across multiple domains. The work involves:

• Building applications across cloud, mobile, desktop, and security platforms
• Designing and debugging software for new product features
• Contributing to network infrastructure, operating systems, compilers, and related tools

Key Skills & Knowledge Areas

Interns will be matched to projects based on their background and interest. Areas include:

1. Networking Protocols

• Fundamentals of TCP/IP, routing, and switching
• Basics of routers, switches, and debugging tools
• Exposure to network security concepts (Firewall, VPN, IPS/IDS, TLS, IPsec)
• Strong programming skills (Python preferred)

2. Application Software

• Object-oriented programming and design fundamentals
• Knowledge of cloud-based application development
• Programming in Python and other scripting languages
• Familiarity with debugging tools and open-source technologies

3. Embedded and Systems Development

• Strong knowledge of operating systems, kernel programming, device drivers
• System-level debugging and performance optimization
• Programming in Python and C/C++
