About the Role

At Cisco, engineers design products that help the world connect better. You will join a talented team working on next-generation technologies — from cloud and networking to AI-powered security systems.

You will be designing, developing, debugging and testing software that runs on millions of devices around the world.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop software programs for new features and product improvements
  • Build tools and systems to support design, infrastructure, and technology platforms
  • Debug, test, and optimize software for better performance
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams and contribute to real-world products

Role Categories

1. Software Engineer – Networking Protocols

  • Strong understanding of computer science and networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, switching)
  • Basic knowledge of routers, switches, and network debugging tools
  • Familiar with network security concepts such as VPN, Firewalls, IPS/IDS, IPsec, TLS
  • Good knowledge of Python and scripting languages
  • Focus on testing and performance optimization

2. Software Engineer – Application Software

  • Good understanding of object-oriented programming and scalable application design
  • Knowledge of Python and cloud-based development
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP and networking concepts
  • Interest in user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design
  • Experience with debugging and open-source projects is a plus

3. Software Engineer – Embedded and Systems Development

  • Strong knowledge of operating systems and system-level programming
  • Experience with Python, C/C++, and system space or kernel space development
  • Exposure to device drivers or board support packages (BSPs) is preferred
  • Solid debugging and problem-solving skills
